Mr Ben’s blog

One of the recent regular additions to the First Friday partner events have been ART @ THE RADISH.

The Radish is a wonderful local shop selling incredible food (if you haven’t been there yet you really need to!) and The Radish opens it’s doors every First Friday for a late night opening filled with scrumy food, great music and fantastic artwork.

For June’s First Friday The Radish will find it’s walls and sound waves decorate by local Artist Mr Ben.

We asked Mr Ben to describe himself in a way that only he could!

Mr Ben is a ham-fisted, semi-literate, artist and purveyor of pop. Haling from a tiny village in the rural North West of England as a young boy of fickle nature Mr Ben tried his hand at almost anything and everything and as a young man has yet to change. From psychedelic films and folk laments to stoneware ceramics Mr Ben is a jack of all trades and perhaps to some a master of none. A graduate from the Brighton Illustration course, his visual art is inspired by 60’s children’s books and film combined with abstract artists of the mid 20th century. The work has naive leanings with a clear love of playful forms.

Musically Mr Ben creates lo-fi psychedelic pop from the comfort of his parents barn. Born out of a secret recording project in 2012 Mr Ben now has 6 albums under his belt with 7th ‘Thanks for Saving my Life’ in the pipeline to be released on Nugget Records in the summer. Now backed live by a rotating cast of musicians and friends ‘The Bens’ the visceral live show will be taken on a tour very soon.’
