Re-Wilding The Voice – An introduction to vocal improvisation with Briony Greenhill
Vocal improvisation is a wilderness art form. It invites the voice to sing its real song, in all its power, vulnerability and colour.
This is an extreme sport for singers with a creativity that naturally reaches out beyond the form of songs, and into a wilder territory where the underlying truths of the moment can be given voice.
This makes it terrifying. Layers of protective self-editing have to be gently encouraged to soften, to let the heart’s voice through. But it comes. And with it comes a magic, a healing, a beauty and aliveness that nourishes our core.
This is why Briony Greenhill practices, performs, records and teaches vocal improvisation internationally. She teaches retreats in wild places, and
this week brings this ancient, contemporary art form to Lancaster. This is a day for singers who can sing in tune, keep a beat, and want an adventure.
