Prog at the Priory
June 3, 2016 @ 8:45 pm£12.50 – £19.50
Lancaster Music Festival’s Prog at the Priory season continues with SIR THIJS VAN LEER (piano and flute) and MENNO GOOTJES (guitar) of the classic Dutch prog rock band Focus performing an acoustic concert at Lancaster’s historic Priory church. Supported by John Young of Lifesigns.
This is a rare opportunity to see one of the legends of progressive rock Sir Thijs van Leer perform a very intimate acoustic set chronicling not only the best of Focus’s songbook, including their worldwide hits “Hocus Pocus” and “Sylvia”, but also the music that inspired him as he grew up in Amsterdam, from Bach to jazz and rock. Sir Thijs on grand piano and flute will be accompanied by the dazzling guitarist of Focus, Menno Gootjes. A must for all Focus fans!
Support act John Young is the keyboardist and vocalist for Lifesigns whose highly acclaimed debut album featured Thijs van Leer and Steve Hackett. They were number 7 in the Band of the Year category in the 2015 Prog Magazine readers poll (positioned between King Crimson and Rush). In a long and varied career John has also played with Asia, Greenslade, The Strawbs, Paul Rodgers and The Scorpions.
The show will be preceded by a playlist of classic Prog rock played over the PA – if you’ve ever dreamed of hearing tracks such as And You And I and Shine On You Crazy Diamond soaring out in a stunning medieval church then this is your chance!
Bar before and after the event and during the interval will serve local real ales, wines and soft drinks.
